Jakarta Speech Competition

This January, I represented my school in The Jakarta Speech Competition. The topic of the competition was anything related to “The Z Generation.” For this competition, I decided to write a speech called “The Strive” which aimed to motivate today’s youth to act upon their ideas and turn them into a reality while maintaining a socially responsible attitude.

The experience was extremely enlightening as I got to hear everyone’s ideas and grow as a public speaker.

Scavenger: The Beginning

I started off 11th grade with a fresh new idea. As a passionate environmentalist and founder of my own environmental organization called “The Better Green People”, I wanted to create a project that would have a significant and positive impact towards the local community and the environment. Since Jakarta does not have an established recycling system as of now, I wanted to find an efficient and accessible way to create one.

From this idea, I started to work towards the creation of what I now call the “Scavenger” app. I drew rough skeleton sketches of what I wanted to include in this application. This included simple graphic designs and functions. Afterward, I presented my idea and sketches to an app developing team.

CAS outcomes:

3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience:

I derived this idea from my own creativity during a summer program session at Brown University. I was able to take the initiative to proceed with Scavenger.

4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences:

I have shown commitment towards this project as it did take a lot of hard work to get all the final designs done before the team and I started developing the app.

5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:

I worked together with app consultants and designers in order to successfully start the development of my raw idea.

6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance and 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions:

I aim towards providing a solution to the recycling situation in Jakarta while continuing to help the local Scavengers.
