Sports, Exercise and Health Science at Standard Level is a new subject at BSJ beginning 2016.
The subject is a Group 4 Science subject and aims to study of the science that underpins physical performance. The course incorporates the traditional disciplines of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, psychology and nutrition. Students cover a range of topics and carry out practical (experimental) investigations in both laboratory and field settings. This provides an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and understanding necessary to apply scientific principles and critically analyse human performance. (IBO, 2016)
It is important to note that Sports, Exercise and Health Science is not about playing sports, but about the science of playing sports. Students should expect to be involved in scientific inquiry rather than physical activity.
